If you’re not sure what your school’s Unique Reference Number (URN) is, it can be found on get-information-schools.service.gov.uk/. After searching for your school on the .gov site you’ll find your school’s URN listed next to ‘ID’.
Information you will need for registration:
You are required to nominate a lead contact for your school who will support in implementing and monitoring the delivery of NELI. This could be, for example, your early years lead, inclusion lead, SENDCo, or an assistant/deputy head. Their role will involve nominating the staff who will access the online training, completing surveys that monitor delivery of the sessions to pupils and take part in training if they wish.
Their email address will be used to activate your school’s account and will be the main email address used to communicate to your school about your registration and the NELI programme going forwards.
You will need to enter the NELI lead’s name, job title, email address and telephone number.
To confirm participation on the programme, schools must agree to the programme terms. The headteacher is required to complete an online form agreeing to the terms and this will register your school to receive the programme.
An account activation email will be sent to the headteacher’s email address provided. Once your headteacher has activated their account a link to the online form to register for the programme will be sent to their email address. We will only send these emails once your NELI lead has activated their account.
Please take the time to communicate with your headteacher about NELI before the NELI lead activates their account.
You will need to indicate the number of classes with reception pupils and the expected total number of children in reception for year 2021/22.
You will also be asked about the expected number of school staff to be trained. Usually, there is 1 NELI group per class which requires training 1 member of staff to deliver NELI to pupils (usually a teaching assistant) and the Reception class teacher is also required to undertake some training.
Your nominated NELI lead, if they are not a Reception class teacher already expected to receive training, could additionally opt to take part in training if they’d like. Therefore, a one-form entry school usually nominates 3 members of staff for training and a two-form entry school usually nominates 5 members of staff.
The NELI lead must activate your school’s account.
Once you submit the initial registration form, the email address provided for the NELI lead will receive an account activation email.
If you do not receive an activation email within a few minutes of signing up, please check your Spam or Junk email folders. If the e-mail is there, mark it Not Spam or Not Junk, which should allow future messages to get through.
Once the account is activated, an email will be sent to the address provided for your headteacher with a link to an online form to accept the programme terms.
We encourage schools to communicate with their headteacher about the NELI opportunity before you activate your account, just so the emails don’t come as a surprise.
Your headteacher must accept the programme terms.
Once the account is activated, an email will be sent to the address provided for your headteacher with a link to an online form to accept the programme terms.
If your headteacher does not receive an email with a link to accept the programme terms within a few minutes of activating your account, please check your Spam or Junk email folders. If the e-mail is there, mark it Not Spam or Not Junk, which should allow future messages to get through.
After the headteacher accepts the programme terms, a copy will become available for download in your school’s account and your account status will change to active.
If we have not received acceptance after three weeks, we will contact your NELI lead.
Once your account has been activated and headteacher has accepted the programme terms, the NELI lead will be able to log in and start nominating trainees.
NELI leads should ensure all colleagues taking part in the online NELI training are nominated by following these steps:
If you wish to change which accounts will receive training, first edit an existing trainee and select ‘No’ to the question ‘Will this person receive training?’. Then edit your new trainee, this time selecting ‘Yes’.
If you wish to change your school’s NELI lead, the new NELI lead must first activate their account. Once their status is ‘Active’ you can edit their details and set them as the NELI lead for your school.
