NELI Online Training

All training and support to deliver the NELI programme is provided online, via FutureLearn. There are no live elements so staff can begin when they like and do as much as they can at any time – an hour in one go or just ten minutes; it always picks up where they left off.

Staff delivering the NELI programme need to complete all three courses. The class teachers are required to complete Course 1.

All three courses have been certified by the CPD Certification Service and can be used as evidence of Continued Professional Development. Completion of all three courses will mean you are a fully trained NELI practitioner.

The NELI courses are:

NELI Course 1: Language Fundamentals – takes 4-5 hours to complete. This first online training has been designed to enhance your understanding of children’s language development and to show you how to use NELI to support the language development of children in your class with language weaknesses.

NELI Course 2: Delivering the NELI Intervention – takes 4-5 hours to complete. This second online training details how to deliver the Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI). The course explores the NELI programme structure, Group and Individual sessions and resources to support your delivery of the NELI programme. On completion of Course 2 you are ready to start delivering the NELI sessions to children.

NELI Course 3: Delivering Part 2 of the NELI Intervention – takes 2 hours to complete. This third and final course teaches you how to deliver sessions in Part 2 of NELI, by introducing you to a new element that you’ll be adding to both the Group and Individual sessions in Part 2 of the programme: letter sounds and phonological awareness. Course 3 should be completed at before beginning the second 10 weeks of the NELI intervention with children.

NELI Support Hub – The NELI Support Hub is a resource that runs alongside you as you deliver the NELI intervention. The Support Hub features videos of sessions, ideas for activities for the individual sessions, as well as giving you lots of other tips and answering your questions – so if you have any concerns at any stage, go to the Support Hub. You can also use the Hub to communicate with your fellow NELI practitioners in other schools, to ask and answer questions, and offer support and advice.
